This is a beautiful book. Fantastic pictures and easy-to-read print containing a lot of fascinating facts on all three species. I am going to keep this copy for myself and buy another for my grandson. He lives in Alaska and really appreciates all of God's creatures. Besides, he will have a much better chance to see one in the wild than I will! My best opportunity here will involve a short drive to "Wolf Haven" for a tour of their facilities. After reading this book, I have a new respect for wolves, coyotes and foxes. I highly recommend this book to everyone that loves dogs! After all, modern, domesticated dogs began when our ancestors and wolves began to coexist with one another! My Alaskan Malamute is a very close relative of the wolf!

Captive, not wild, animals used in this book. Shameful.

I guess it is just the way things are these days, but it is disconcerting that all of the photos in this book are of captive animals, and not their wild relatives. This isn't the work of a wildlife photographer, but a master at staged images. It's too bad he doesn't disclose that information. I'd shop around, and reward real wildlife photographers who spend time in the wild, and who aren't supporting this dubious industry of keeping these species captive just so they can be trotted out for a photo shoot.

A SPIRITUAL GIFT!

"Keys to the Spirit World" simplifies the process of communicating with your spirit guides, who are always there to help you navigate your path through the physical world.

This book helps you use all the spiritual tools and gifts you were born with, but most likely forgot. As a child, you may have heard your spirit guide(s) through your "inner ear," but blocked them out as you grew older and more conditioned by society's rules of what is reality and what isn't. This book is a breath of fresh air, saying "Yes, you can take guidance from your dreams, inner and outer voices, thoughts, and visualizations." Plus, O'Neill offers guidance on how to relax and allow communication with your spirit guides to happen. She even includes exercises to help you tear down the walls to spirit communication.

I especially liked the section on chakras and their correlation to spirit communications. O'Neill explains how chakras, our energetic centers, allow information to be received from the spiritual realm. She takes you one by one through the chakras, with special emphasis on the Heart Chakra, which is elevated and expanded through higher consciousness, the Throat Chakra, used for channeling information during spirit communications, and the Third Eye Chakra, which opens you to clairvoyance and clear seeing.
The author shares some of her own experiences as a child growing up with psychic abilities and the sensations she felt in these chakra areas before she understood their relationship to the spiritual realm.

Beyond Amazing

I got Jennifer's "Soul DNA" for free a few days ago. Wow! It was a right place, right time thing for me. Or, as I wrote to Jennifer, perhaps it was my spirit guides leading me to it.

My life has been difficult in several ways for about a year. I knew I needed changes, but was seriously stuck and not doing anything to cause changes to happen. After reading these two books and doing some of the exercises, I did connect with my spirit guides. I've always known they were there. I've witnessed too many of their interventions not to know how close they are. I've even tried to communicate with them before, but I think I wasn't really serious and was just goofing around when I tried. This time, I really NEEDED them, and they were there. They still are. It's an amazing feeling, and it's essentially changed my life.

I HIGHLY recommend both of these books. If you're already a believer, You'll love how easy Jennifer makes it for you. If you're a non-believer, or on the fence, give it a try. It can't hurt you, and what you might gain could be amazing.

Intelligent, succinct and without propoganda

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book, which is the first time I have read anything by O'Neill. Her writing is very easy to understand and she puts on no airs with the information she conveys. Though this is a quick read (1073 locations according to my iPhone) there is no wasted space within. Every line is chock full of important information and whether you are an old hand at this or just getting your hands wet with communicating with your spirit guides, this short book will prove a happy addition to your library.

In particular, I quite appreciated that the pages of this book were free of underlying propaganda meant (whether intentional or not) to influence readers towards certain beliefs or contrarily, defame against certain beliefs. Other than assuming that you are probably picking up this book because you believe there is someone/something out there - the creator, angels, loved ones or guides - watching over you, what your core beliefs are is a non-issue within the pages of this book. The author simply provides you with tools - specific meditations and complimentary activities that have been effective for her and her students, and then both descriptions of and advices for overcoming the most common "blocks" that prevent practitioners from achieving a desired outcome.

Lastly, she proves she is a teacher to the very heart of her, and concludes her instruction by offering that readers not hesitate to contact her should they have questions or run into problems as they work on the material she has provided them. Highly recommended.

Great writing style, great plot, great book!!

Sharon Gerlach has an amazing wit and it shows in this gripping, funny, flirtatious novel!
Follow Frannie Freeman in her quest for Sam, the man she loves; her corny, quirky office-mates and her wretched supervisor, Malaria.
I enjoyed this book so much, and didn't want it to end. I immediately picked up "The Secret Dreams of Sarah-Jane Quinn" in order to keep up with the offices of Harper and Lyttle.
I adore this book and want to see more from this series! Sharon Gerlach rocks!!

I lol'd...for real

I really enjoyed this book. It was definitely Laugh out Loud funny. I spend 40+ hours a week sitting in a cubicle enduring the office politics that seem to be the same in office environments everywhere. My cubicle mates and I enjoyed reading different parts of this book and replacing different characters with our co-workers. Perfect book to ease office boredom :)

Just like any office

First in the Harper & Lyttle series - this is a great book. Recommended by a friend, I was a little skeptical at firt. But I absolutely had a hard time putting it down (I had to go to work!). It kept me focused, reminded me of other offices I had worked at (especially the politics) and just kept me laughing. It was great to read a book that had no murders and was definitely not depressing! I loved it so much I got it for my uncle, Mom,and sister. It was so great I immediately bought the next one (the Sarah Jane Quinn) and am definitely looking forward to more in the series. You can't go wrong with this book!!

Says it all

This is an excellent book that brings right up to date the state of the art with regard to cutting edge academic work on globalization. I must admit I am prejudiced, as I am one of the 50. I must say, however, that the editors did a great job of summarizing my own ideas, and this is also the impression I have of the other chapters I have read. Should be required reading not just for students but for academics as well who need to keep up with the crucial and ever-evolving debates in the field.

Written specifically for the Sony SLT-A77! Although they share some features, the new Sony SLT-A77 camera is very different from its cousin, the SLT-A65. That's why I decided it was important to write this book, dedicated exclusively to the more advanced A77 model, rather than try to lump the two into a single book. Wouldn't you rather have a book written specifically for your camera, describing its controls, menus, and features, instead of a hodge-podge that attempts to cover both?

For example, the Sony SLT-A77 has two control dials, a joystick-like controller, a top panel LCD, and a much more sophisticated autofocus system than the A65. It boasts an AF fine-tune system, flash sync socket, higher flash sync speed, and other features not found in the A65. Clearly, the A77 is an enthusiast's camera, and deserves a book written for more advanced photographers like you.

But what if you're not an enthusiast -- but hope to become one, or simply want to take better pictures? Part II, "Beyond the Basics," has three chapters that show you how to use the A77's amazing exposure modes, including Sweep Panorama and 3D Sweep Panorama. There's an entire chapter on using the A77's lightning-fast autofocus with 19 focus points (including 11-cross type sensors) to get sharp images every time. I include a focus chart you can use to eliminate front- or back-focus problems with the A77's fine-tuning feature. You'll find a chapter on advanced shooting techniques, including stack focus, and working with GPS, WiFi, smart phones and tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire.

In Part III, "Advanced Tools" The A77's translucent mirror technology takes you to the next level in movie-making, and I've written a full chapter on the camera's video features, with plenty of shooting tips for those new to movie shooting. Another chapter shows you how to choose and use lenses, with an analysis and review of the most important lenses available for the A77, and there's a chapter on working with available light and flash.

The software advice is strictly an overview; I don't pad this book out with Photoshop how-to lessons that show you how to correct mistakes you made while shooting. SLT-A77/David Busch

As a novice in the SLR/SLT camera world I went to a camera store to enter the expanded world of photography. I was convinced the A77 was the first and last camera I would need. When I got the camera home holy cow it was a lot more complicated than I thought. It takes awesome pics but I was using about 1% of its capabilities. I thought I needed much more info than what came with the camera. I purchased David Busch's book and as I read it in plain English it makes the functions easy to understand and I am beginning to use more and more of the cameras capabilities. Ii highly recommend this book for anyone that has the A77.

Terrific guide to the new Alpha 77 camera. Every function described in detail and illustrated with full color large and easy to read screen shots and sample photos. It would be a pity to purchase this fine camera and not know how to use its many features which are not at all obvious, especially to users accustomed to the Canon EOS functions and menu. One section to get you stared with setup and the basics. Followed by chapters covering each feature and function in full detail. If you're switching from CANON EOS to Sony Alpha, get this book.

I have had my A77 for several months but there were some functions (of the many) that were simply not explained anywhere until I got this book. All my questions were addressed here. Get this, you won't be disappointed!

Odd and interesting at the same time

This book consisted of four chapters, the first and last of which were a fast and intriquing read. The two middle chapters were full of complex and iffy statistics which lead to very interesting conclusions. However, one couldn't help feeling that the said conclusions could have been made without the tedious statistics. Especially since data from the ancient world is spotty at best. However, if you ever see this book sitting in a used book store I recommend that you purchase it, I guarantee that you will not come across many books like it very often. The theme of the book seems to be death oriented, and a bit, well, odd. This book is sure to be an unique experience.

Stunning, terrifying, and inspiring

I was privileged to see an early review copy of Khaled Sayed's latest photography book, Rebel. If you're familiar with Khaled's work from his documentary films about the Egyptian revolution in 2011, then you will be pleased to see his same style of visual storytelling captured here. The book shares Khaled's perspective on the four days of protest in 2013 that surrounded the efforts to oust President Morsi from office, with the strong support of the majority of the Egyptian people along with the nation's military forces.

It's chilling to see the sheer size of the demonstrations. Khaled's description of the events tells us that this was the largest single gathering of people in human history, and it looks that way from the photos. Khaled goes in close to capture the details and expressions, then pulls back to show the magnitude of the event. All along, the book is sets the pace as we move from sweeping panoramas to minute details most people might miss.

The descriptions at the beginning of the book set the stage well for what the pictures reveal. Despite the broad cross-section of people you see, it's hard to feel as if these are strangers. Khaled shows you what each person is feeling privately, but you can always sense the unusual public nature of the entire situation. With military helicopters circling overhead, and green laser pointers painting the sides of graffiti-covered buildings, the combination of anger and hope comes across vividly.

This book needs to be experienced from beginning to end. It tells a story that fits together as a cohesive whole, even though the questions raised by the juxtaposition of human emotion and military strength clearly paint the picture of a revolution that is unfinished.

In dwindling numbers, with aging equipment, America's airmen may no longer be able to win a near-peer war with a hostile nation-state like North Korea. The shrinking of U.S. air power is nothing new but the Air Force hoped to compensate with advanced technology. With the F-22 Raptor superfighter as its flagship, the Air Force was going to enter a new era when sensors, digital technology and connectivity would make up for declining numbers. In this new world with its new way of waging war, the F-22 would be out in front.

That was the plan before Robert Gates became Secretary of Defense in 2006.

THE END OF AIR SUPERIORITY?

Robert F. Dorr warns America that its domination of the air is in peril because the United States Air Force is running out of fighter aircraft. “Legacy fighters” are the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Falcon—and those airframes are wearing out. No more “obsolete” F-15 or F-16 are being authorized by Congress. The two aircraft that were to replace the F-15 and F-16 were the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II. The Raptor program was gutted—Dorr gives a minimum number of F-22 airframes required for an effective Air Force that is far above the 187 currently authorized—381 to equip ten Air Expeditionary Forces. He quotes others who say that at least 600 F-22 Raptors are needed. The F-22 production lines are shut down. As for the F-35 program—Dorr pronounces it a failure. The author carefully explains his position.

Robert F. Dorr offers several solutions—including one on where to get the money to modernize the Air Force. One solution to the fighter shortage: put F/A-18F Super Hornets in the Air National Guard. Another is scrapping the B-2 program entirely.

“Air Power Abandoned” credits one person with destroying the United States Air Force: Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense. Gates took office 18 December 2006, but dismantling the Air Force began in 1991 with the “end” of the Cold War. Slashed were the new long-range bomber, a new tanker aircraft, a combat rescue helicopters—and the F-22 Raptor program (except for those aircraft already constructed). This was accomplished while fighting two major counter-insurgencies—Iraq and Afghanistan—plus the other dozen or so low-intensity conflicts world-wide that usually stay off the front page of your newspaper.

I recommend this book because the issues raised are important. The air-to-air refueling tanker KC-135 made the B-52 bomber an intercontinental weapon, but those old airplanes were designed at the end of the Forties and first flew during the early Fifties. The “replacement” DC-10 tankers are wearing out because of their dual-purpose cargo and tanker roles, which keeps these planes in constant use. The need for a tanker is key to the Seversky-style Air Force that Dorr endorses: an Air Force with primary bases in CONUS and no vulnerable over-seas bases. Door recommends the Airbus A330-200 tanker, a proven and reliable platform already in use by six air forces.

Today's Department of Defense focuses on the threat from international terrorism and from Anthropogenic Climate Change—ignoring incidents such as Russian bombers off the coast of California. Climate Change is where the money is today. Drones are the wave of the future—but not quite ready for prime time due to control lag and lack of situational awareness. Even drones need tanker aircraft to reach their targets—or else vulnerable forward air fields.

Mandatory Reading for AF personnel

Robert F. Dorr's AIR POWER ABANDONDED is one of the most daring books addressing the military as I've seen in recent times. He addresses the fact that no one seems to want to talk about . . . we are not perfect. This is a well researched, factual account of the rise and fall of a specific weapons system. While he does stray into other programs, it's to build the foundation for the underlying problem in weapons acquisition. Like any serious study, the book doesn't read like a novel; it's based on facts. But it does expose the serious problems that our Air Force faces with its aging weapons systems and the dangers facing us if we don't address them. This should be mandatory reading for discussion at the Air Force service schools (SOS, ACSC, Air War College). Well done Mr. Dorr!

Defeat Without Air Power

Before typing a review I check those that have already been posted so I don’t simply parrot what has already been written. In the case of Robert Dorr’s Air Power Abandoned: Robert Gates, the F-22 Raptor and the Betrayal of America's Air Force (Kindle Edition) I was somewhat surprised to see the book criticized for some of the very things I thought strengthened his argument. Dorr’s treatment of Gates, for example, is not drawn along familiar political lines because the Secretary worked for both Republican and Democratic administrations. This leaves Gates as Dorr describes him, someone with little or no interest in Air Power. This in itself is not a sin—unless he is the guy in charge, which Gates was.

As Dorr emphasizes so forcibly, every time we allow our ability to employ Air Power to weaken, we invite catastrophe. Seversky’s line of reasoning in Victory Through Air Power, Dorr points out, that positioning B-19s in Alaska within range of the Japanese Empire would have been a powerful deterrent that could well have thwarted the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

The present political climate reflects many of the issues covered in Air Power Abandoned, the bickering and haggling between services at the Pentagon where there are obviously too many generals and admirals, and money seems to be the only concern. Missing from the money equation is that large defense contracts, properly executed, tend to generate thousands of jobs—and millions in taxes.

Dorr’s concerns are pretty much limited to the Raptor and its alternatives, but his message is clear: a weak Air Force invites disaster.
