I loved this book when I first got it when my children were young and now I got another copy to send to my granddaughter and read to her when I see her next. It has a lovely rhyming patter, and sweet storyline promoting rescuing unloved, unwanted pets.

A wonderful story! My favorite children's book!

This is my absolute favorite children's book, and give it to all of my new parent friends! The story is told in rhyme making the reading predictable for children. The illustrations are colorful and include "hidden" animals. And it's a wonderful, feel-good story! I only wish the author had written more stories about Maxi the Taxi Dog! (there are two other books)

The BEST Children's Book Ever!!!

I have given this book as a gift four times -- and each time it has quickly become the child's favorite book by far. A very smart little ten-month-old I know (and love) crawls over to the bookshelf and gets "Maxi Taxi" three to four times a day and hands it to you to read it to him. I can recite the book in my sleep at this point!! The rhymes are lovely; the illustrations are sweet and the message is just beautiful. I promise you that your young children will adore this book.

Not ideal, but useful

I bought this book to accompany 'Precalculus with Limits: A Graphing Approach - Ed. 3' (ISBN: 0618052917). I was looking for a book with solutions to all of the problems in the main textbook. This solutions guide ONLY has solutions to the ODD NUMBERED PROBLEMS from the main textbook.

The only benefit of buying this book is if you need explanations/step-by-step solutions - the main textbook already has the same solutions, just without the explanation (again, odd numbered problems only).

Helped my grade a lot!

I have the text book that goes a long with this solutions study guide. This book has the solution to the odd numbered problems in the book, as well as odd and even answers for the chapter tests. In the beginning of each section it tells you what you should know, important formulas, etc. It's very helpful to study with. Another great thing about the book is that not only does it give you the answer, but it gives you step by step how to get there. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who is taking Precalculus with this text book, whether you're struggling or not, it's affordable, and has really helped me understand things the teacher hasn't done a great job of.

Fantastic resource for teachers of grammar

I teach college-level writing, and although this book is primarily aimed at K-12 teachers, it's incredibly useful and practical for the teaching of grammar at any level. It breaks the material up into clear chunks that are digestible, and articulates very clear relationships between the chunks--this is what is difficult to get across when teaching grammar, and the authors do a wonderful job of schematizing their lessons. I could not recommend this more highly!

An abundance of a particular mistake

Page 41. "Here are the applications that we want students to learn through the Verb Map: (5) Avoiding the unnecessary use of the past perfect tense when the simple past would be more effective."

There is NO circumstance under which the simple past is more or less effective than the past perfect. The past perfect is very precise in its meaning. Its use is NEVER optional. It, or what appears to be it if 'had' is in front of a past tense verb, is either used correctly, meaningfully, or it is incorrect. There is no middle ground, no decision is necessary or possible as to whether it should be used. The buyer can decide how important this egregious error is in a grammar text.

There are present perfect or past perfect errors, or both, on pages 61, 100, 115, 118, 119, 122, 129, and 136. The buyer gets to decide how important such an abundance of errors is in a grammar text.

This book is the first published English-language translation of the significant History of Islamic Spain by Ibn al-Qutiya (d. Cordova 367 / 977). Including extensive notes and comments, a genealogical table and relevant maps, the text is preceded by a study of the author and his work, and is the only serious examination of the unique manuscript since Pascual de Gayangos’ edition in 1868.

Ibn al-Qutiya’s work is one of the significant and earliest histories of Muslim Spain and an important source for scholars. Although like most Muslims of al-Andalus in this period, Ibn al-Qutiya was of European origin, he was a loyal servant of the Iberian Umayyads, and taught Arabic, traditions (hadith) and history in the Great Mosque of Cordova. Written at the height of the Umayyad Caliphate of Muslim Spain and Portugal (al-Andalus), the History describes the first 250 years of Muslim rule in the peninsula. The text, first fully translated into Spanish in 1926, deals with all aspects of life, and includes accounts of Christians, Jews and Muslim converts.

This book will be of great interest to scholars and students of the history of Spain and Portugal, Islamic history, and Mediaeval European history.

About the Author

David James was Special Lecturer in Arabic Studies at University College Dublin, where he also taught a course on Islamic Spain. He is the author of Manuscripts of the Holy Qur’an from the Mamluk Era and has lived and worked in Andalucia for the last ten years.
