I recommend this book for all artists

If you're an artist and you are interested in applying for grants, you MUST have this book. This is now THE go-to book on the subject.

When I received my copy I had every intention of skimming through the pages to see what was there. Little did I know that I would read every word of a book on grant-writing. I was afraid it would be dry, but Rosenberg tells great stories.

Artists should pay close attention to what grants are and who they are for. You really have to know yourself as an artist and what you want for your career before you start applying for grants willy-nilly. I fear some artists might skip over this first chapter, but it's not to be missed.

I also very much like Rosenberg's discussion of jealousy among artists and how to get past that.

Let's face it: a book on grant writing doesn't sound like a barrel of fun. Just the thought of flipping open the cover sounds like grueling work. But after listening to Gigi Rosenberg speak at a local bookstore about demystifying the process--not just in an effort to get funds but as a way of accessing one's creative past, present and future--with such enthusiasm, all I could do afterward was march over to the cash register and purchase the book.

Now that I have it, I am rereading it slowly because it's oddly thought provoking. And I admit, even fun. These days it's difficult to find a book on grant writing that focuses on the individual creative artist since most are geared toward the non-profit corporation. Ms. Rosenberg does just that and so much more. Not only does she guide us through each step of the process, (with insider tips) and lovingly hold our trembling hands, she also walks us through an artistic journey, encouraging us to imagine what our lives would look like if we had all the tools we needed to fulfill our artistic desires... Imagine that. Whether you plan to put the book to work as a tool to get some cash, or just want to clarify your creative goals, Ms. Rosenberg's book is a definite must-have.

Very, very good resource for the novice grant writer. Provides excellent information on artist bios, resumes, etc. that can be applied to any situation. I bought this book as a reference for applying for artist residencies and I found it very helpful. The resource I used most pertained to creating a plan for your grant or residency. I recommend this book to anyone delving into applying for grants and residencies. Although it addresses groups as a whole there is still valuable information for individuals seeking assistance.

If you want to be an ethical practictioner, then get the more recent edition!

If you are planning on being a current, practicing BCBA, then DO NOT GET THIS EDITION. It is not up-to-date with the latest code. The ethical code was revamped in 2016, so you should get the current edition, the 3rd edition.

Obviously, if you don't care about the changes in the code, then this book is fine. These authors do a great job getting the message across in an easy to understand way. But I highly recommend the new edition if you are practicing in the field.

Essential reading for future BCBAs!

If you plan to work toward becoming a BCBA, you MUST get this book! It is essential that all BCBAs know and understand their ethical responsibilities and how to handle some of the ethical challenges that can come about in the course of practice. A bit thick, terminology-wise, but it is geared toward graduate-level students so that is to be expected.

As a masters student in Behavior Analysis, this book is very helpful, and required. It gave many scenarios that were easy to follow and helped clarify some confusion. Definitely worth getting, especially if you are considering sitting for the BACB exam, as there are ethics questions on that test.

About the Author
Tony Koester has written ten books focusing on his lifelong hobby of model railroading. He has been the editor of Model Railroad Planning, a special annual issue of Model Railroader magazine, since its inception in 1995. He is a contributing editor to Model Railroader and served as the editor of Railroad Model Craftsman. Tony is hard at work on a multi-deck HO railroad that accurately depicts the Nickel Plate Road's St. Louis Division as it appeared in 1954.

About the Author
Anthony Mancuso is a corporations and limited liability company expert. He graduated from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, is a member of the California State Bar, writes books and software in the fields of corporate and LLC law, and studies advanced business taxation at Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He has also been a consultant for Silicon Valley EDA (Electronic Design Automation) companies, most recently working on a C++ open-source integrated circuit database project team. He is the author of several Nolo books on forming and operating corporations (both profit and nonprofit) and limited liability companies. His titles include Incorporate Your Business, How to Form a Nonprofit Corporation (national and California editions), Form Your Own Limited Liability Company, The Corporate Records Handbook, and LLC or Corporation?. Enough information to get my LLC created

Using the information in this book I was able to successfully create an LLC. I first purchased "Limited Liability Companies for Dummies". Good background material but it did not contain a sample operating agreement. These long and complicated agreements are the heart of LLC creation. So, I turned to Mr. Mancuso's book. He has full samples of both a member managed and manager managed LLCs. I took his form, modified for my needs and finished the job.

On the downside there are a number of areas where the text says "refer to your attorney". Part of this is the nature of the beast. While a simple LLC creation is pretty straight forward there are areas where one can get into trouble. Special allocations of profits where profits are not distributed based on ownership triggers all sorts of IRS rules. Professional help is needed here. I did not need anything like that so not a problem.

Another reviewer mentions the lack of information on Series LLCs. These are really specialized for something like a taxi company where the company is an LLC and each individual taxi is owned by a separate LLC. So if you are a big business doing fancy asset protection with series LLCs, then this book is not for you. If you want to start a small business and want the protection of an LLC, this book contains the information to get it done.

I bought this book to help me become more informed about LLCs. My plan was to learn some background, then work with a lawyer to set it up. This book was so helpful and explained the process so well that I realized I could do it myself, which I did. Even if you go thru a lawyer this book will help you understand the concept, ask the right questions and set the LLC up to meet your needs.

Conflicted Identities examines the politicization of both public and domestic space, especially in societies undergoing rapid cultural transformation through political, social or economic expansion or restructuring, when cultural identity is being rapidly "modernized", shifted, or realigned to conform to new demands. Using specific examples from a variety of national contexts, the book examines how vernacular housing, legislation, marketing, and media influence a large, but often underexposed domestic culture that runs parallel to a more publicly represented one. As a case in point, the book examines West Germany from the end of World War II to the early 1970s to probe more deeply into the mechanisms of such cultural dichotomy. On a national level, post-war West Germany demonstratively rejected Nazi-era values by rebuilding cities based on interwar modernist tenets, while choosing a decidedly modern and transparent architecture for high-visibility national projects. In the domestic realm, government, media and everyday citizens countered this turn to state-sponsored modernism by embracing traditional architectural aesthetics and housing that encouraged patriarchal family structures.

Not one of their best. A lot of do this, do that, but not much depth regarding how to. I would not recomend this book for your average shade tree mechanic. I understand that the complexity of cars today make it hard to DIY, but there are still some things you can do.

Lacking structure, concrete examples, or hard evidence, this pamphlet represents the prolonged diatribe of an author with an axe to grind without offering any solutions to what he perceives as a widespread pervasive problem. When TLC was between albums, I had no way to release my creativity. One night, feeling put-out by my boyfriend and wondering about how much women had to go through to make a relationship work, I sat down and started writing poems. "Unpretty" was the first. Up until then, I hadn't realized how badly I needed to release what I was feeling inside. They were my thoughts from the heart, and my art.

The poems cover a whole range of topics: Love, relationships, heartbreak, body image, family, society, abortion, and many other things. They each mean alot to me, and I hope they inspire you, give you a different perspective on what's going on around you, or just help you relax. You'll find a little bit of me in these words, and maybe you'll find a little bit of yourself or someone you know.

I reached out to my friends, including my fans, while I was putting Thoughts. together and they realty inspired me and helped me figure out which stories to tell. Stories about the important people in my life, like my mom who's always been there for me, my family, my TLC partners Lisa and Rozonda, and those who have all helped me along the way. I've had to deal with some tough stuff, like my relationship with my dad, who left when I was three, my never-ending battle with sickle cell, the bad high school years, my self-image problems, and my fight to survive in this crazy music business.

Sharing these stories and poems has helped me face big issues in my life. Maybe they'll help you, too. Or maybe they'll give you a better understanding of who I am as a person. I can only express myself so much through my songs. On my own, though, I can let you into my heart and mind.

A wonderful book

This is not the kind of book I often read, but I became interested in it through my love of TLC's music.
I found so much in this book that is good and truthful. Tionne shares many of her life's most emotional experiences. A lot of this is delightful to read - like the chapters about her brother, her mother, and her grandmother, for whom she shows unconditional love. She also talks about her love for God throughout the book, and tries to give advice to her readers on how to live a happy and virtuous life - by respecting oneself and others, for seeing things for what they are, being honest, and taking responsibility for oneself and being productive. Much of this comes out in the poems, and it earned a great deal of respect from me.
In some ways, the book was hard for me to read, because it made me very aware of my own many shortcomings. But I am grateful for that, and it touched me in a way that no other book has quite done. Also, the chapter "Monster in my Veins" in which she talks about her lifelong illness is hard to read - evoking great compassion in the reader.
And those who love TLC will find the chapter about how the group got together quite a treasure.
The book is organised as follows: a section consisting of 12 poems, followed by 7 essays, then 10 more poems, then 7 more essays, then 12 more poems. There are lavish colour sections at the beginning and end, which contain photos of Tionne and her family and friends, and two of the poetry sections. All the poems are beautifully illustrated.
Tionne has done a wonderful thing by writing this book, and sending such a positive and healthy message to her many young devotees.

If not for her fame, this woul dhave NEVER been published

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with everyone who is giving this 5 stars. I give Tionne her props for her honesty and for talking about some interesting issues...but frankly, I've seen better poems on a Hallmark card. If these poems didn't have so much heart, I would have given this a ZERO STARS because I really think the poetry needs a lot of work.
I couldn't wait to get this book because of the great reader reviews it was getting here...I am soooooo glad I read all the poems BEFORE buying it because there's not much there I would want to read again. If you are a TLC fan or you really have a passion for these subjects, you'll probably enjoy the book. But if you are someone who studies poetry, you might be disappointed. I give anyone, especially a sista, props for writing down her feelings and discovering the writer inside...I just don't think EVERYONE who takes that step needs to be published and I sho' don't think people should have to pay for it! Tionne, keep doin' your thang, but next time you might want to have an experienced poet help you with some editing so that your poems live up to the beauty in your heart.

The one and only Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins

Thoughts is an amazing collection of Tionne's personal stories about her life, home photographs, and real life poems. I love writing and am so glad that TT has put this book together. Like everything else she does, she copies no one, always setting her own standards and doing things on her terms. And somehow it always works. Very well. In the book, you learn about how she became the woman she is today and she really tells a lot about her life, which is unique from many celebs. You walk away from the book with a whole new perspective about how T-Boz thinks and who she is, and how you think and who you are. Tionne is not the type of star that seems untouchable - she seems like the type of person that even though you don't know her, after reading the book you could go up and talk to her like anybody else. It's an inspiring, even amusing book, that will help or entertain everybody, particulary young girls. Hey ladies! TLC has always rocked for us and now it's great to see Tionne sharing some of the same thoughts all of us have with us. TT, if you ever read this, great job and know that you are loved and appreciated by millions of fans in whatever you do! Good luck and I love you! BUY IT! BTW - TT, you guys were awesome in concert!
