An excellent introduction to the design theory world

This book is filling a gap in the literature to learn the basic techniques in combinatorial designs. It is accessible for any student with a minimum background in mathematics, this makes the book appropriate as a textbook on the subject. The exercises are very well designed too.
The bibliography has been carefully selected and any of the papes referenced is classic in this subject.
For all these reasons I consider that this book is the right door to start learning about the wonderful world of combinatorial designs.

Very Limited Book

This book has very few examples and the exercies are do not
follow the logic of the lessons. Very hard to read and understand, simple concepts are made very difficult through this book. Assumes a lot from the reader. (i.e. "Obviously, the answer is 2"). Obviously? It took me two hours to come up with that answer! Show me HOW!
Seems like this book was written for those who know combinatorics already, not good for beginners.

About the Author
Bill Schubart has lived with his family in Vermont since 1947. He writes about Vermont in fiction, humor and opinion pieces. At 26, Schubart was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Vermont Arts Council and then served again at age 41. At 30, he joined the Board of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. In 1984, he became Chairman of the Vermont Folklife Center. He was educated in Morrisville Public Schools, Phillips Exeter Academy, Kenyon College and the University of Vermont. Schubart's great uncle was the renowned photographer and champion of impressionist art, Alfred Stieglitz. Schubart is fluent in French language and culture which he taught before entering communications as an entrepreneur. He writes and speaks extensively on the media and other civic issues. He has served on panels and spoken at numerous industry and media events including Book Expo, The Direct Marketing Association and The Entertainment Marketing Conference. He also writes and publishes opinion and fiction at www.Schubart.com . Schubart's interests include poetry, logging, stone gardening, primitive music and Proust.

A Courageous Book

Bill Schubart takes on the forbidden subject ... fat. And he takes it head-on from the jarring title to the cover image of a naked, disgruntled cherub who looks as if someone has just taken away his sweet bun. The characters of these fourteen fictional stories share enormous girths and are treated with equal measures of honesty (occasionally brutal), sympathy, and pathos. There's Baybie in her slanted trailer, Father Bob who can no longer reach his own penis,the girl on the train with the imaginary boy friend, even an aging coyote scavenging for fast food scraps. Be forewarned! The author will be taking you in places you've never been before (and maybe did not want to go). Schubart, a "man of girth," has been there, done that. What redeems these stories is the clarity and precision of the writing. Whether it's describing the compulsive creation of the perfect white bread cheese sandwich or the lingering aftertaste of a cinnamon roll Schubart's writing is as addictive as some of his characters' eating disorders. Writing this good makes any subject interesting. (Thank goodness, no recipes in this book!)

What Is It Like to Be Fat?

This is not light reading. In Bill Schubart's unsparing but compassionate stories, the world of people "of girth," opens up to the rest of us: the strain on the joints imposed by great weight; the beckoning, dreaded aroma of cinnamon buns and cheap pizza in an airport concourse (can you keep walking and get past that counter?); the rank odor wafting off a shy teenager in a boarding school because he's too ashamed to shower with the other boys. The loneliness and isolation; the obsessions. And every once in a while, a sweet small victory.

At times you may find yourself a reluctant reader but stay with it. You won't find this perspective anywhere else.

Dangerous Territory

This is an amazing collection of stories. Stories full of deep understanding, poignant humor, and courageous revelation. They remind us of the complex societal and personal struggles and taboos around body, food, and love that we all confront but which fat people struggle with in so many different ways.There is great sensitivity and perspective in this collection. (Notice that in the tags list one cannot find just the word "fat" but only phrases about fat.)

Great Buy For The Price

You couldn't ask more of a book about guitar scales. It is organized in a very logical manner showing scales and modes in all 12 keys. I haven't counted, but it boasts that it contains over 1300 scale diagrams. I'll never master all of this but it is great to have it handy to reference when I need.

If you are learning guitar don't even hesitate - just get this book. It's companion book - Incredible Chord Finder - is also a must-have in my opinion. It is physically smaller and so fits easily into a gig bag or guitar case.

This book changed my entire playing world. I use this all the time when playing on backing tracks for practice, I just riff along with the backing tracks and experiment with the right box patterns.
