Very good compilation of articles.

This book is a must have for everyone planning to or currently designing vlsi high performance circuits. Covers initials/reviews of mos transistors from mid-to-deep physics to simple components and then to further more complicated circuits. Interesting to mention that the authors compile a set of related articles published on highly respected journals. Cons are that many times those coverage are superficial, condensed to one page and leads you to deeper research on the original references. Pros are that you have, in only one place, a whole compilation of good articles in the area. I think this is the most interesting aspect of the book, because once you study the concepts covered, you have good knowledge to understand those articles. Overall, the book outperforms many other books, both in coverage and in the level of detail on each topic.

excellent book for fundamentals/reference

I used the first edition of this book in my graduate class. I found the book well-written with good examples and explanations. It also covers a diverse range of subjects and I still find myself referring to it when I have doubts. If you are having problems with understanding fundamentals, I highly recommend this book as a reference.

Bad printing quality, many typos

The printing quality is terrible. A low quality publication for such a high price. It is like the foreign edition, no color. There are streaks of white across most of the pages, which make the text and pictures difficult to read. The book appears to have been eaten badly by the printing machine, because every page has the same crease pattern.

Seems to be a decent text on digital MOSFET circuits. My professor spoke highly of it. However, there are MANY typographical errors. Ridiculous.

Sassy Southern Story

I read Clark's first novel Stay Tuned awhile ago and really enjoyed it so I was eager for her next book. Clark did not disappoint and delivered another enjoyable novel.

Julia arrives, soon charmed by the lovely city and her handsome host, but her stay is marred by a shocking discovery. Can Julia's story save her career, Eufaula, and the annual Pilgrimage?

This was the first of two books that I've read recently that featured a travel writer and I've decided that I love reading about travel writers. They seem to always have some sort of commitment issue that needs to be worked out and it allows for lots of pretty scenery along the way.

I think I needed more romance in this book. The focus of the book wasn't the love story but I think I needed just a bit more of a relationship between Julia and Shug. I knew they'd end up together but there weren't enough of those little moments for me. Or maybe it was that a situation came up that put his girlfriend out of the picture...it wasn't that he "chose" Julia as much as he liked her and then his girlfriend was conveniently out of the way. Sorry - it's hard to explain that without giving too much away!

My favourite part of this book was reading about Julia's journey. Her boss seems to know just what she needs to figure stuff out - even though he sort of has his own agenda. She's so unstable at the beginning of the book yet she doesn't quite realize that. It takes the wonderful folk in Eufaula to show her how to get back to solid ground.

Overall, I liked Dancing Naked in Dixie but I didn't love it. Have you ever read a book and wondered if you should have left it for a later date because you just weren't feeling it but knew you would normally enjoy it immensely? OK, that might just be me but that's how I felt about this one. I think many chick lit lovers would really like this one so I encourage you to pick up Lauren Clark's latest and find out for yourself.

I had the immense pleasure of not only helping edit but reading this book before it was released. Lauren Clark is a fabulous writer, a remarkable voice in women's fiction and she really knows what it takes to create a great story. This book has all the emotions, from happiness, to dramatic moments, love, generosity, the close knit ties of family, wanting to bawl your eyes out and cheering for the heroine! I loved it from beginning to end. Dancing Naked in Dixie is a book that every woman will want to read and should read! The plot is stimulating and exciting, the story is touching and beautiful and the characters become a part of your own family from the first meeting. It's a book that you will not want to put down and one that you will not want to end long after your done. I could easily find myself going back and reading this one over and over again.

A truly amazing read, with just the right amount of everything to make it a fast favorite. Grab a copy today!

Quick read, engaging, great story

I was given a complimentary copy of this book in order to review it.

I thought this was a wonderful story full of Southern charm. Some characters were charming, some vengeful and others were full of inner demons. The author was able to take all of these character types and weave them into a story that includes comedy, sadness, anger, dishonesty and love. This is a romance with a bit of intrigue. I have to admit though that I don't understand the title, there is nothing mentioned to do with dancing or nudity. The story can be read by just about anyone as it does not include lewd/graphic story lines of any kind and also does not include bad language.

Julia Sullivan is a well known travel reporter for Getaways Magazine. She is use to jetting off to new and exotic places at the drop of a hat but things are about to change. While she was gone on her last assignment a new CEO was named and it is someone Julia knows, better than some, but not as well as she should. After arriving back at the magazine she is called to the CEO's office for a meeting and she is shocked to learn his identity. Right from the start he gives her an assignment that she is not keen on. He tells her that she will be staying in the U.S. for awhile. The magazine will be doing travel stories "off the beaten path", these are what the people want, local flavor and flare. He also tells her she must pay attention to her subject matter and write a good story because her job depends on it.

When Julia arrives in the town she is to write about she meets all sorts of colorful people and instead of quickly writing a story by just grabbing facts and quick interviews, she stays and tries to soak up information by talking to people and experiencing the town. What she didn't know is that the boss has an ulterior motive and he is closer to this town and some of its people than she knows. Thinking that she could lose her job she puts her all into her story and finds herself having feelings for someone and caring about what happens in this small town. History and progress are colliding. Underhanded deals are made, lies, deceit and damage ensue. Which side will come out on top is anyone's guess and Julia finds she can't walk away until all is put right. And even then, can she or will she walk away.

Finally!

At last! A Dalmatian book that doesn't discourage you away from the breed! This book is up-front about the medical concerns that Dalmatians may encounter- such as their tendency to form urinary stones, but the author also gives advice on how to avoid that problem.

If you already own a Dalmatian or are already familiar with the breed, this book would probably just seem monatonous. However, if your're new to the breed and are looking for a good introductory book- you've found it!

Grisham's recent slump continues with another subpar effort whose plot and characters, none of whom are painted in shades of gray, aren't able to support an earnest protest against the death penalty. In 2007, almost on the eve of the execution of Donté Drumm, an African-American college football star, for the 1998 murder of a white cheerleader whose body was never found, Travis Boyette, a creepy multiple sex offender, confesses that he's guilty of the crime to Kansas minister Keith Schroeder. With Drumm's legal options dwindling fast and with the threat of civil unrest in his Texas hometown if the execution proceeds, Schroeder battles to convince Boyette to go public with the truth--and to persuade the condemned man's attorney that Boyette's story needs to be taken seriously. While the action progresses with a certain grim realism, Schroeder's superficial responses to the issues raised undercut the impact. As with The Appeal, the author's passionate views on serious flaws in the justice system don't translate well into fiction. (Oct.)

Bravo!

I am an avid reader and have read countless legal thrillers over the years. As a retired Federal Judge with 24 years of experience, I can tell you that you will never find a more realistic portrait of how the legal system works and, more importantly, how often it does not. Run do not walk to your bookstore and grab this one. You won't be sorry.

Less than a week before the scheduled execution of Donté Drumm, convicted ten years ago for a murder he did not commit, the real killer steps forward. Travis Boyette, a convicted serial rapist on parole, approaches Keith Schroeder (a Christian minister) in Topeka and confesses to the murder. Boyette has an inoperable brain tumour, and feels bad about sending an innocent man to his death.

Reluctantly, Keith Schroeder agrees to drive Boyette to the town where the murder occurred in the hope that a confession will stop the scheduled execution of Drumm. Keith Schroeder joins forces with Donté Drumm's defence lawyer, Robbie Flak in the hope that they can at least halt the scheduled execution until Boyette's story is checked.

I enjoyed the first two thirds of this novel. While character development was sketchy, the urgency of the situation kept me turning pages. The facts about the case, the flimsy `evidence' upon which Donté Drumm was convicted all heightened the tension, especially when one of the witnesses admitted that he had falsely testified and as Boyette's claims are tested.

But then the narrative changed. The fiction became a vehicle against the death penalty and thriller became propaganda. This diminished the impact of the story, reduced my enjoyment of it and is reflected in my rating.

Keep the politics out of reviews

Reviewers should keep their own political views on the back burner when they review books. Bashing a book when you disagree, or lavishing it when you agree misses the point. I read these reviews mostly to find out one thing: is this a good book, or not?

The Confession is a legal thriller by an accomplished writer, one who became famous by writing legal thrillers. I loved Grisham's early books, reading each one eagerly, glued to the pages, and disappointed when I finished, realizing that I had to wait a long time for the next one. Somewhere along the way Grisham lost his mojo, and, unfortunately, he hasn't fully regained it. Maybe I am not the same reader that I was when I read The Firm in 1991. Try as I might, I couldn't get excited about this one.

This story was written as a political statement. Fiction that serves to prove a point requires a skillful narrator, or it risks becoming tedious. There are some great writers who wrote great novels as a form of political expression, like Dickens, Warren and Ellison. Grisham is not in their league. Grisham's talents as a writer are good enough to bring this readable novel to fruition, but it has some problems: The plot is not believable enough for my liking, and characters on one side of the issue are created as likeable, basically good people, while those on the opposite side are completely bad. The story lacks realism.

Donte , who is at the center of the novel, is a sympathetic figure, but he remains a figure, not a person whom the reader really knows. Keith , the well intentioned pastor who brings the killer to Texas, may be the best described personality, but he is bland and boring. The story builds suspense in the second half, and I willingly read to the end, although I was pretty sure where it was going. This was just a fair novel, with the story in the back seat, and the message driving. I prefer the opposite.

In his first children's book, octogenarian Albert uses the appealing story of a lonely man as the framework for an edifying lesson on desert wildlife. Living in a remote adobe house, with only his burro for a companion, Alejandro is delighted when a squirrel appears in his garden one day and eventually returns with more visitors--jackrabbits, roadrunners, cactus wrens--all realistically portrayed by Long ( Ten Little Rabbits ; Fire Race ). Realizing that it is the water in his garden that attracts the small creatures, Alejandro decides to dig a water hole to accommodate the larger desert animals, like the coyotes, javelinas and bobcats. Puzzled when they seem to ignore the water, Alejandro finally realizes that the hole is too close to his house and the road. So the kind man digs another, more sheltered, water hole, and his offering to the animals and their inadvertent gift of company are mutually appreciated. Detailed pictures and descriptions of Alejandro's animal neighbors are provided on the final spread, allowing readers to become better acquainted with the creatures that Long works into her polished paintings, which impressively recreate the muted colors and varied textures of the desert. Grade 1-4-Alejandro, a man in his 60s, lives in a small adobe house beside an isolated desert road. His only companion is a burro. To ease his loneliness, he tends to his garden. One day, a ground squirrel approaches the garden to drink from its furrows, followed by wood rats, pocket gophers, jackrabbits, kangaroo rats, pocket mice, roadrunners, gila woodpeckers, and thrashers. Time passes more quickly, and Alejandro enjoys his new companions. However, he soon realizes that they come to him for water, not for company, and sets out to dig a water hole for them. Albert's simple and poetic text evokes the silence and emptiness in Alejandro's life. He grows to understand his interdependence with the land and its creatures as he lives among them. Long's rich, detailed, and realistically rendered pictures provide the perfect visual setting to an already memorable tale. The colorfully illustrated glossary of flora and fauna is informative. An ideal book to develop in readers an appreciation for the beauty of the desert and its inhabitants.

Ages 5-8. This tender story by an elderly writer about an old man who lives alone in the desert has an autobiographical ring. After Alejandro plants a lush vegetable garden to help pass the time, he is thrilled by the many small animals that come to drink in its furrows. But when he realizes that there are many larger creatures going thirsty, he generously builds a sheltered waterhole away from his adobe home. The handsome watercolors by Long (Fire Race, Ten Little Rabbits) are well served by the oversize format. Realistically detailed and brightly colored, the pictures shatter the myth of the desert as a barren, inhospitable habitat. This lovely story can be used to lead kids to nonfiction books about the desert's secrets. Julie Corsaro

Satisfying authentic story and illustrations about the southwest desert

I am so thrilled with this new book for my granddaughters, 5 and 3 years. This is a beautiful story about a simple, lonely man who lives in the desert but who finds companionship with all the desert denizens when he finds out the secret to luring them in to his property. What a charming and heartwarming story with exceptionally beautiful illustrations. For anyone who loves the desert and wants to expose their children to the birds and animals, as well as the lifestyle of those who choose to live there, this is a touching and worthy gem. Being desert dwellers ourselves, there is a satisfying authenticity to the story and illustrations. Five stars.

Good bed time story

Alejandro is lonley living in the desert. By accident, he learns that if he plants a garden, animals come for the water and shade and Alejandro's lonliness is lessened.
But later, Alejandro learns that gifts given (the garden) makes the gifts received (the company) all the more sweeter.
"Alejandro's Gift" is a quiet book - no need for funny voices or wild antics. It makes a great bed time story or a great "snuggle with your kids on a rainy day" book.
This can also provide a nice way to discuss nature and preservation with your children.
There are lots of interesting things to look at in the illustrations. I read this to a group of school agers and they all enjoyed looking at the pictures and trying to identify all the different animals. We live far away from any desert, so many of these animals were unfamiliar to us.
This is a good book and I definitly recommend it.
