Good material, presentation problematic

This is one of the latest guides on ice climbing. It therefore covers the most modern techniques, is up to date with equipment, and has great color photos. Written by Will Gadd it definitely has the flair of an individual author, reads more like a pro's guide than a technical reference. The type of material covered and order is great. However, the editing of this guide is severely lacking. It suffers from incorrect captions, bad figure references, transposed terms (convex vs concave) and complex procedures described in steps that tend to get you lost in confusion rather than clarify.

If you're an already accomplished ice climber, there will be a few "take home" concepts ("tracking"/cycling vertical progression, and his personal take on mix climbing techniques for instance). A beginner will benefit more from this guide (after reading twice to work around the editing problems).

A second edition, edited properly, will be a top-notch guide on this sport.

Written in thoughtful and lively fashion, Gadd distills his 20 years of collected wisdom into 230 pages. Discussions on tools, technique, nutrition, training are all useful - this is a book for the aspiring ice warrior as well as the climber with a few seasons under his / her belt. The constant Red Bull pimping gets a bit distracting but a guy has to pay the bills, afterall. Highly recommended.

The best book out on ice and mixed climbing!

Will Gadd is the man! This guy has been there and done that and is giving you all the beta. The book is well written, has good stories and great pictures. I think i have rear every book on ice climbing there is (even the Chouinard book). if you only read one book on climbing ice this is it. This is also the only book that really talked about serious mixed climbing at all. I can't recommend this enough. If you currently lead WI5 and climb M8 then i guess you might not need this, but if your searching the internet for ice climbing books then you obviously should buy this one.

Must Have book for the Thinking Artist

This book is out of print and I was so glad to find several different buying options on Amazon. I splurged and got a decent first edition. I am a painter and just recently, via Maria Popova's article in Brain Pickings (the best blog I have seen to date!).. wrote about e.e.Cummings and how he writes about his art and writing in this book. Have just begun to delve into it. So far everything I have read is a gem!

About the Author
Christopher Was is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Kent State University. He began his career working in a residential treatment facility for adjudicated youth as a teacher and research coordinator for the Odyssey Project, sponsored by the Child Welfare League of America. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Utah in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis in learning, memory and cognition. His research interests are in the areas of models of working memory, complex cognitive processes, and metacognition. More recently his research has focused on implicit learning processes and their relationship to intelligence. Dr. Was uses eye tracking technologies in his research to investigate the connection between implicit cognitive processing and the explicit learning that results from these processes. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers, chapters, and refereed conference proceedings in the areas of learning, educational psychology, and cognitive psychology.

Frank J. Sansosti, Ph.D., NCSP is an Associate Professor in the School Psychology at Kent State University. He has extensive experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities in both school and clinic settings. As a practitioner he provided coaching and technical assistance for early intervention and best practice approaches for students with low-incidence disabilities in inclusive settings, and coordinated efforts between parents, teachers, administrators, and district level personnel. Currently, Dr. Sansostis primary research and professional interests focus on the development and implementation of behavioral and social skills interventions for individuals with developmental delays, as well as the use of eye-tracking technologies as a tool for investigating the academic and social difficulties of students with disabilities. Dr. Sansosti is an active researcher, as evidence by over 40 publications and more than 75 professional workshops at local, regional, national, and international venues.

Bradley J. Morris is a Developmental Cognitive Scientist whose research program includes basic research in cognitive development and its application in designing and assessing effective STEM instruction in formal and informal settings. His research focuses on the development of Scientific and Mathematical reasoning and Motivation. The goal of his research program is to identify mechanisms underlying childrens reasoning (e.g., strategy acquisition) and motivation (e.g., praise type) using a variety of experimental methods (e.g., eye tracking), technological implementations (e.g., apps that measure informal STEM engagement), and computational models.

On my good days, the sacrum holds and the up slips ...

I have been following this protocol for over a year and a half and at the age of 65, the time I have put into it has been totally worth it. On my good days, the sacrum holds and the up slips have gone away. It takes time, determination and commitment to follow up and do the exercises but they are not hard and do in time strengthen your muscles, thus allowing you to hold better. This book is not meant for you to take home and do yourself. You need to find a willing PT that will use the book as the guide and watch you try each new step and then check your body to be sure you held while doing the workout. It is safe, gentle, must be geared to your body and it's needs. I am thrilled with my results and love that this is allowing me to be proactive with my life!!!

This exercise regimen is a godsend for EDS!

This book is for you if:
-like most of us, you have only been able to find physical therapists who were ineffective, made your joints more unstable or even severely injured you
-you would like your money to go toward a compassionate physical therapist who believes EDSers and believes IN EDSers. You'll be proactively helping prevent the deterioration of your health, instead of relying on healthcare professionals who are either too dismissive or who give up and tell you you'll never be active again
-your EDS is severe enough to limit your physical abilities in any way
-you are in any amount of pain that you'd like reduce

This book was written by my physical therapist, Kevin Muldowney, who is one of the only PTs in the country to specialize in Ehlers-Danlos. (Seriously, EDSers drive in from out of state to see him.) Unlike physical therapists who give you a "cookie cutter" set of exercises designed for people with normal collagen, he became an expert at treating EDS bodies by systematically examining a substantial number of EDSers over long time periods, as he slowly added in exercises he developed specifically with EDS biomechanics in mind. He has an extremely high success rate of decreasing pain and disability in almost his EDS patients (most of whom I know personally). You can bring this book to any "manual physical therapist" in the country, and it will teach them exactly how to treat you. A lot of the pain reduction occurs slowly over time, but some strong, temporary relief happens immediately with the manual corrections of your subluxations that this book outlines (it's MUCH safer than chiropractors if your PT is well-trained). This is a long exercise regimen, but it builds slowly and works WITH you and your body. Itreally pays off in the long run--your joints will be more stable than they have been in years!

I just received my copy of this book last night. I've scanned all of the book and read the chapters for the patient and I'm so impressed already. It gives so much more than I expected. Not just an exercise book but full support for anyone with EDS, including how to work with your therapist, the other support needed so that you have the best results, and of course, the exercises all laid out carefully and with full support.
My only wish is that it was paperback. A bit heavy for me at this stage of health. And it would be nice to have it spiral bound. So I hope those are options for the next one.

Excellent and relevant

This may be the best writing on strategy by an American in the twentieth century. Admiral Wylie's little book is simple to read and understand, and he admits that he may miss the mark with some of his ideas, but encourages the reader to probe further. I've written an longer review at zenpundit and the US Naval Institue's blog.

Highest possible recommendation...particularly if you're in uniform and just getting started with strategic thinking, this book would be a great place to start.

It was brilliant with sinners at every turn

Let the sinning commence. The only sin I can think of is not reading this book. It was brilliant with sinners at every turn. The mother, the neighbour, the friend. September and Jesse's world is full of them. Two people that love each other with everything they have end up not being able to have what they most want in the world, each other.
Now if you've read book one in this fantastic series, you are not going to be able to put this book down.
Yes it's a complicated relationship but you tell me what relationships aren't. Forget who's related to who, there is no crime here, only love.
September is at college, meeting new friends, working hard and missing Jesse terribly. Jesse is working hard, ignoring the wife LOL, it's only on paper people, the woman abandon them all years ago, let's not forget. He is trying to forget all about September and failing miserably. He will always love her, that much is very clear.
The grandparents of September and Scout are desperate for Jesse and Sarah, formally known as Libby, to rekindle their love and give the marriage a second chance. Pfffft not in this life time. Sarah would jump at the chance but no way is Jesse that stupid. He is a caring, loving man but he no longer feels anything for her, she's Scout's mother and that's it.
September hates her mother with a passion and in all honesty she has valid reasons. I don't think she will ever forgive her.
God knows what the neighbour Casey is up to now, befriending Sarah, that woman wants Jesse all to herself, HA! another big fat NO. I think they are all forgetting one very important detail here, he's found real love and when that happens nothing can compare. So all the women that seem to be in heat around Jesse need to take a cold shower and quick. I just had mine haha!! Seriously the man is HOT!!
Them rip off your clothes moments melted my panties. He's got everything any woman would want in a man, hard working, great father, helps around the house, fun to be with, caring, loving, pleasing to the eyes and an exceptional lover. What more could a girl want? Oh yeah for him to divorce his wife, that might help.
September has yet another secret and Jesse is about to find out, giving September no option but to do as he says. Dominant Jesse is in the house, I love it.
Bless Scout she's a great kid, probably knows a lot more than she should but that's life. Sometimes it's best to be open and honest because you want your children to do the same.
September may have ended but the love in this story will last a life time. Happy smiles all round for a fantastic ending. I am now looking to see what other books this Author has written as her writing is off the charts epic. I recommend you pick up a book by Andrea Smith today. Thank you for once again for another awesome book.

This was a good sequel about Jessie and September's love story there was a lot of angst in this book and very emotional I was sweating there for awhile but love knows no bounds love doesn't see age or circumstance it just is and you can really see the love that these 2 had for each other definitely a beautiful HEA to this series well done Greyson :)

Carla's Five Star Review for When September Ends. If you have not read the first book in this series, Until September, you need to do that before reading this one to avoid confusion.

When September's mother reappears, September's world is thrown into a tailspin. Her mother is in Mississippi at her grandparent's home, and Jesse decides to take Scout, September's half sister, to see her. However, September refuses to go. While Jesse and Scout are gone, September moves out. This leads to a lot of confusion and pain for everyone involved. In the midst of dealing with his estranged wife along with September's grandparent's disapproval of his relationship with their granddaughter, Jesse must decide if their relationship is worth fighting for.

I was really excited to read more of Jesse and September's love story! I love the alternating pov's in this book because we got to see just what Jesse was thinking and feeling. I also hated Casey, the neighbor, and was so glad to see Jesse finally put her in her place! If you loved Until September as much as I did, you are sure to love this follow up! Brilliant work, Andrea!!

Genealogists and anyone tracing Cherokee ancestry are sure to find History of the Cherokee Indians especially illuminating; other readers curious about a more general history of the tribe will also find a wealth of insightful information about the Cherokee's conflicts with other tribes, adoption of its constitution, emigrations, treaties, and much more. I have wanted this book for decades and was so elated to find it. It is in pristine condition. My only complaint is that there are no years used by the author. As a historical record, using dates would help to clarify the information given. I did know this when I purxhased the book.

It is a good book for anyone searching for their Cherokee ancestry,with the one drawback as mentioned.

Some really good advice for couples who want to heal.

Having been in this situation, the advice in this book is definitely worth the read. I would have given five stars if the author had made the effort to have the book proofread. However, the content was really good. Emotional affairs make the person who's been cheated on feel just as bad as if it had been a physical affair, sometimes worse. It has a way of making them feel like they were betrayed at the soul level and the person committing the affair rarely understands just how deeply that knife cuts. The advice in this book is set up so that both parties can see how things need to change for the healing process to begin and so that both partners can understand what happened in the first place. Great advice.
