Great afternoon read

3.5 stars - I’m not big on short stories, mainly because I find it difficult to really connect with the characters in that short amount of time when much of it is devoted to getting the story told in such few pages. But, this one was quite enjoyable, I think mostly due to the somewhat unique aspects. For one, Todd is the older sub with Malik being the younger, but more experienced, dom.
After a rather nasty breakup/relationship, Todd is taking a chance at exploring his kinkier side. That past relationship caused a bit of self esteem damage which really doesn’t help Todd’s situation. Luckily, he is matched up rather quickly with the confident Malik who is exactly what Todd needs. Malik means what he says and says what he means, all of which is positive and caring, a far cry from what Todd is used to.
The reintroduction of the ex seemed a bit unnecessary, and I really would have liked to have seen more of Malik and Todd’s growing relationship instead. What we did get was wonderful though. These guys are really great together once Todd gets past his issues over Malik’s interest in him.
Overall, this was an enjoyable afternoon read. There isn’t anything too heavy, which played out nicely with the short story theme. I’m definitely interested in reading more from Ms. Harris in the future.

Todd has always had needs he had been hiding. He finally tells his lover of 6 years, Lionel, only to be ridiculed and kicked out of Lionel’s apartment. Todd finally takes a leap and goes to a club a friend recommended. He meets Malik, who seems to be everything he would ever want in a man. But would the age difference be an issue?
I liked this story a lot. It shows the inner turmoil and struggles of someone that is trying to feel needs that do not fit in with the normal society. I liked both Todd and Malik.
I would have liked to have seen more of where Todd and Malik’s relationship went in the future as we only get a couple weeks. Also, there was only one mild spanking scene with Malik and Todd, the rest were only alluded to. I would have liked to see the scene and how Todd reacted to it. I also would have liked more of Malik’s reactions.
Having said that, this is a very sweet, romantic, hot story. You can’t go wrong for a short story!
If you like sweet romance, short stories older men/younger men, mild BDSM and some sensual but hot man-sex this is definitely for you.

Sweet new-to-BDSM "Never too late" story

Todd is a 41-year-old man who is new to the BDSM scene. He had a long-term relationship with Lionel, who found Todd’s submissive desires to be obscene and appalling. Todd is restarting his life, sans-Lionel, and is tentative but determined. He meets Malik, a 30-year-old Middle Eastern man at his new club. Malik is a dominant, and very interested in Todd. They begin an acquaintance, with Malik exerting his Dom influence from the very start. It is thrilling and fulfilling to Todd in a way he has long desired.
I really enjoyed the steps Malik took to ensure Todd’s comfort. The story is told from Todd’s POV, so I was fully engaged with Todd’s wonder and excitement. I liked that Malik was kind, conscientious, and patient with Todd. Todd has a self-confidence issue following his break-up with Lionel and Malik really builds Todd back up. It was sweet. The BDSM elements are small, and not all on the page. Todd and Malik develop a quick bond that enables Todd to feel confident and positive about his sexual desires and needs, which I loved.
